The summer is ending, passing by with flying colors of good and great days, and some not as wonderful. Overall it has been fairly good to me, filled with some adventures, some new thoughts, some new ideas and some new characteristics. But what is there yet to come?
In barely a week starts my last year of studying design at SCAD, a creative university that offers to possibility to get a degree even if you study from the other side of the world, comfy at your own cave. Savannah College of Art and Design is located in the state of Georgia, USA.
So far I have finished three whole years of a 4 year intense-as-hell study program, giving it my all and not settling for mediocrity. These studies have taken a lot in both my sanity and the funds of my family and a whole bunch of supporters.
Some ask Why are you even studying there? Can’t you just do it here in Latvia? We have art schools too. To which I can just sigh. First and most obvious thing to point out is accessibility. No school in the field of art is stair-less and lift-full. Then they might ask something like But there are some places that offer like distance learning, you just have to go there like once a week or something. Sure, of course there are! In all sorts of things like marketing, economics and business. No, thanks. Okay, but then why you just don’t go there to America? I’m sorry, I guess I haven’t showed you my golden pony and the three mansions in Costa Rica that cost-a-billion each. We’re barely managing the tuition, now you want me to move to America? Yeah, but you’re missing out on the whole experience. Yeah, well you are missing out on brain.
There are things that you have to sacrifice or be fine with to miss out. In the end, I am doing it to get extremely intricate to the bone education. SCAD has had years and years of experience regarding the creation of the online program and their on campus programs as well. As much as I am loving all the schools we have here, I, yet, cannot compare the level of opportunities and the level of education in the art field with theirs. Therefore, I do not feel like I’m missing out on anything, I feel like I’m gaining a bunch.
Which is why, after I get the final year down, next May/June me and my family are making a trip of a lifetime – we’re going to travel to Savannah. Georgia for the commencement ceremony to get my diploma and have a blast! This would be my second time in America and I plan on hardcore blogging the whole thing out. I don’t yet want to dive into the plans that we have, but it’s gonna involve a lot of planes, touristy things, Georgia & Florida heat as well as Mickey mouse, if all goes well!
So, after all this, what is my next chapter? It’s pinning down the last year of studies in 9 more different classes that I have to take, involving some web design, possibly photography and maybe I could take philosophy too… that could be interesting. I have a lot of planning to do and understanding of where my life is heading next. School, relationships, goals and dreams. I’m gonna make best out of all.
