Mmm, that sweet icing! And the soft muffin bites… with some sprinkle and cherry on top..! No, not a recipe this time, just some sweetness that you can eat by… looking at it?
I love drawing sweets! Muffins, candy, cupcakes, pastries, donuts and all that. First realised this joy because of an assignment for college (I’m about to start senior year at SCAD! Woo~) where we had to draw a whole setting of sweets. It just comes out so pretty! And then I drew a custom illustration for someone cause they also enjoyed the tasty look, so today I’ll showcase a new custom cover design for some notebooks.
For now I only made one design for a small sketchbook/notebook, which has a wonderful dark lilac cover and lavender pages. The dark background is a parfect match for my chalk pastel pencils, they make the illustration vibrant and extra yummy.
When I draw my own ideas, I don’t do much rough sketching if any, so I just went straight with the pencils on the notebook by making some reference points so I draw symmetrically. Doing this also helps strengthen the whole ability to position objects, especially when it comes to composition and placement. You suddenly notice the smallest details of misbalance, skewing and other fancy terms.
I have a bunch of new Moleskine notebooks coming in, and a handful of other ones yet blank, so I’m sure I’ll end up with more than one cupcake design and perhaps even have something almost like a sweets line of designs. But either way, it’s a lot of work!
